    Hi,

NSF usually takes between 6 to 9 months to fully complete the proposal review and decision process. Any updates from will be sent to your email address on file, and you can also check the status of your proposal by logging in on your Research.gov account.

I applied to Nov 6, 2024, Translational Impacts closing date and my reviews were from Feb 20-Feb 27, 2025 and my status changed to pending on March 3rd. Sent an email to PD on April 1st and got a response that I should be receiving a final decision in 2 weeks. Havent heard anything from the PD or NSF till now. Is this a good sign or bad sign ?

    Hi rg1993,

While it isn’t possible to speculate on the outcome at this time, you have done the right thing by reaching out to the program officer. As the two week estimation time falls on April 15th, I recommend reaching out to the PO again then if you have not received any status updates. The NSF has recently resumed all reviews and processing, so delays are likely and should not be cause for grave concern. Maintaining a good relationship with your PO is a priority in this case. Best of luck!

Thank you, in the email I sent, I also informed the PD about the progress I am making on my work that I proposed in the SBIR. I had one question, do PDs always reach out with additional questions before recommending a favorable decision because they have not reached out to me asking for any information. Or do they reach out after they have made a favorable decision. Thank you!

Of course, happy to help. PO/PDs would only reach out with questions if there is an element of the application that they need clarification on before making a final decision. Lack of any response or questions at this stage can be completely normal and is not indicative one way or another. Having been in your situation, I know this does not make the wait any easier, but hopefully you get more information next week!

Ok, thanks Connor! Will keep you posted once I hear back. Glad to know that it is not a requirement that PO/PD will always reach out before making a final decision.
